Welcome to Your Editor Friend

Hello! Thanks for visiting Your Editor Friend. My hope is that these letters will feel like conversations between a writer and an editor who also happen to be friends in real life—touching on writing, publishing, editing, and everything in between—while also providing actionable advice that you can apply to your work.

If you’re like me, you probably own a hefty stack of books about writing. Maybe you also haven’t read most of them. When I first thought about starting these letters, that stack of books intimidated me. Millions of words have been written by people far smarter, more acclaimed, and more experienced than me—what could I possibly have to add?

But then I thought about some of the best advice I’ve received during my career. While I’ve learned a lot from books about writing and publishing, I’ve learned just as much—if not more—from people I know and trust: writers, illustrators, editors, agents, designers, and the many other talented people I’ve been lucky enough to work with.

I still plan to continue reading my stack of writing books (and highly recommend many of the ones I’ve read—especially The Magic Words by Cheryl Klein). I also hope to keep learning and sharing through conversations like this.

If you’d like to say hello, share feedback, or submit a question that I might answer in a future letter, please email me! I’d love to hear from you. You can also subscribe to receive these letters straight to your inbox every Wednesday.

Your Editor Friend,

Julie
